Barite is a mineral with an interesting history, a crystal occurring in a wide variety of colors and forms. Named for the Greek word for heavy, it is largely mined as an industrial ore across the globe, with uses in various industries including oil drilling. As a mineral specimen or gemstone Barite can be found in many colors including vibrant reds, pinks, and blues as well as the more commonly encountered clear or pale white. These large, uniquely shaped pieces contain thin, flat barite crystals arranged in densely packed rosettes in hues of rose, amber, and pure white.
