Remarks: The wolf cichlid is a massive, predatory cichlid found within lakes and rivers in Central America. They are very important to the people there as a food fish with them referring to it affectionately as “Guapote” which means “attractive” or “good-looking” in Spanish. It is not difficult to figure out the cause for this nickname as adult wolf cichlids show beautiful coloration in the form of a blue-green body and fins covered in black speckles. Mature, dominant males show this color the best and will even get pointed extensions on the ends of their dorsal and anal fins.
In the aquarium, the wolf cichlid has gained a reputation for more than just their color. They grow to a huge size compared to other aquarium fish, are extremely aggressive, and are always eager to feed. 150 gallons is typically sufficient for one, but if any tank mates are considered, a much larger tank is required. Their predatory and territorial nature makes it where large amounts of caution should be used when choosing tankmates to avoid injuries and casualties. Ideally, this fish is best kept alone or in male female pairs, though in this case a close eye should be kept on them as even pairs will fight occasionally. If one is successful in satisfying the needs of a wolf cichlid, you will be rewarded with a highly intelligent fish that has a ton of personality and will live for many years, sometimes even a few decades.
We do not 100% guarantee sexes on these fish, every “sexed” fish is an educated attempt on our part. We are largely confident in our ability to sex these fish, however they are still young adults, so there is still a slim margin for error. No refunds/credits will be issued for these attempts.
