Reef Safe With Caution

The Halichoeres hortulanus, commonly known as the Checkerboard Wrasse, is a strikingly beautiful fish with a vibrant green body, highlighted by a distinct checkered pattern of black and white across its scales. This fish is highly active, constantly on the move, adding life and energy to your aquarium. While the Checkeredboard Wrasse is generally peaceful, caution is advised when adding it to a reef tank, as it may pick at small invertebrates, crustaceans, and occasionally nip at corals. It thrives in tanks with plenty of rockwork and sand beds, where it can forage and hide. This hardy and adaptable wrasse is an excellent choice for larger tanks with moderate caution towards reef compatibility.
